FAITH

MEMORY VERSE: For unto us was the Gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. Heb. 4:2.

BIBLE PASSAGE: Hebrews 11:1-16

INTRODUCATION: Faith is the very foundation of the Christian creed and conduct since we are saved by faith (Eph.2:8). Faith is confidence in God that leads us to believe His Word, the Holy Bible. It is by faith that we receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour and confess Him to the world.

The Symphonic woman showed persevering faith and got what she wanted (Mk. 7:26), Just as the centurion manifested a humble faith and was rewarded for it (Matt. 8:8-10). The blind man showed an earnest faith and received his sight again (Mk. 10:51). As Christ talked with these people He looked for faith in each one so that He could heal them or solve their problems. Will Christ find faith in you today?

WHAT IS FAITH?
The Bible definition of faith is to be found in (HEB. 11:1). The substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Faith is trust in the God of the Scriptures and in Jesus Christ whom He has sent, which receives Him as Saviour and Lord. The faith that saves is a personal trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. You sit on
a new chair because faith says you will not fall and you do not fall. Similarly, faith says Jesus is the Saviour and if you surrender your life to Him, He will save your soul. And if you do so Jesus will save you unfailingly!

WHY IS FAITH NECESSARY?
The major reason why faith is so crucial to the Christians is that he cannot please God without faith (Heb. 11:6). There can be no dealings with the invisible God without faith in His existence. We must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him. Then He will be pleased towards us. Faith is also a crucial condition for salvation (Acts 16:31), Just as it is necessary for healing, sanctification and baptism in the Holy Spirit.

WHAT RAE THE SOURCES OF FAITH?
There are two sources of faith: (i) the Divine source and (ii) the human source. On the Divine side, faith is the work of the Trinity: (a) God the Father (Rom. 12:3). (b) God the Son (Heb. 12:2) and (c) God the Holy Spirit (Gal. 5:22). On the human side, faith comes by hearing the Word of God (Rom. 10:17). As we listen to God’s Word preached, our faith grows stronger and stronger. As we read stories of the Bible, our faith grows greater and greater. Our faith also grows by listening to powerful Christian testimonies. Similarly, our faith can increase through prayers (Lk. 15:5).

WHAT IS THE FOUNDATION OF FAITH?
True faith, faith that works, is that faith is based on the Word of God. God is not a liar. When He promises because His Word binds Him (Num 23:19). Also in (Lk. 21:33), He says, “Heaven and Earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.” Great men of faith in the past based their faith solely on the promises of God. For example, Elijah prayed that it might not rain and it did not rain for three and a half years (1 Kings 17:1). Why? Because Elijah based his prayer on faith on the Word of God. He was merely acting on the promise of God recorded in Deut. 11:16-17. God had already promised that if the people served other gods, He will shut up the heavens and there will be no rain. All that Elijah did was to remind God of His promises! Therefore, if you know the promises of God and you base your faith on these promises just as Elijah did, then you too will get your desired results. There is no impossibility today for faith just as in the days of Elijah. God never changes! (Heb. 13:8) and Jesus says that if we have faith nothing shall be impossible unto us (Matt. 17:20). By “nothing impossible,” He means that anything that is already promised by God’s Word shall not be impossible to obtain by faith.

WHAT ARE THE RESULTS OF FAITH?
We are saved by faith (1 Jn. 1:1-2). We are justified by faith (Rom. 5:1). We become children of God by faith (Gal. 3:26). We are sanctified by faith (Acts 26:18). We are kept by faith (1 Pet. 1:5). We obtain rest for our body and soul by faith (Heb.4:3). We can do all things by faith in Christ Jesus! (Phil. 4:13). Our eternal home is determined by our faith or lack of it! By faith we can be saved and spend eternity in heaven with our Lord Jesus Christ or we can disbelieve him and spend eternity in hell. Where are you going to spend eternity? Like to ask God to increase your faith?
