LUCIFER

MEMORY VERSE: Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh and hath nothing in me. John 14:30.

BIBLE PASSAGE: Ezekiel 28:12-19, Isaiah 14:12-17.

INTRODUCATION: The Christian life is a battle against our great enemy, Satan or the devil or Lucifer. As a result of the fall of man, every sinner became the possession of the devil and they shared the same fate cursed by God and destined to hell. When we receive Jesus Christ as our Saviour, this relationship of Satan and sinner is broken but Satan does not give us up easily; he fights desperately to regain us. The Bible tells us to resist Satan, fight him, and give him no place in our lives.

WHAT IS THE ORIGIN OF SATAN
Satan is a created being according to (Col. 1:16). But the actual time of his creation is unknown. According to (Ezek. 28:12-19), Satan was full of wisdom and perfect in beauty, he was capable of using tablets and pipes and was perhaps the highest angel being the anointed cherub. He was called Lucifer the Son of morning according to Isaiah. He remained perfect until sin entered him and that sin was pride. This pride led him to desire to be like the Most High God and led to his being cast out from the presence of God in heaven. His headquarters is now in the air (Eph. 2:2) even though he still has limited access to heaven which access he
exploits to accuse the brethren, (Job 1:6-12, Zech. 3:1).

WHAT IS HE LIKE
Satan is very cunning and subtle (11 Cor. 11:3) and we must not underestimate his satanic wisdom. He is a thief, (Matt. 13:19) so that we should be careful not to allow him to steal the Word of God from our hearts. He is a liar, a murderer and a destroyer (Jn. 8:44). So that we must cling to Jesus who is the Truth and the Author of Life (Jn. 10:10). He is a deceiver (Rev. 12:9) and he will readily deceive anyone who is not well-grounded in the Word of God.

WHAT OTHER TITLES HAS HE
Satan has several names and titles. It will be profitable to know them all so that we can recognize him under any name or little. He is an angel of light (11 Cor. 2:13-15); a roaring lion (1 Pet. 5:8), the prince of the power of the air, (Eph. 2:2); the power of darkness (i.e. the president of all secret societies and cults) Col. 1:13. He is also the great dragon, the serpent, the devil, (Rev. 12:9). The prince of this world (Jn. 14:30), the god of this world (11 Cor. 4:4) and the king of the bottomless pit, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon (Rev. 9:11).

WHAT IS HIS DUTY
There is never anything good about Satan. All that he is and all that he does is evil continually. For instance, he is constantly seeking whom he may destroy and whose flesh he may devour (1 Pet. 5:8, 1 Cor. 5:5). He is ever sowing tares and evil doctrine (Matt. 13:25, 30), to blind the minds of men, to accuse the brethren and to
sift the Christians (11 Cor. 4:4, Lk. 22:31).

WHAT IS HIS DESTINY
At a future date, Satan’s access to heaven will be forbidden (Rev. 12:7), and then he will intensify his stirring up of men against God (Rev. 12:12) as a result of which an angel will descend from heaven and chain him, and cast him into the bottomless pit where he will be imprisoned for a thousand years (Rev. 20:1-3). After this, he will be loosed for a little season and go out to deceive the nations to attempts to revolt against God. He will be crushed and cast into the lake of fire forever (Rev. 20:7-10). Then at last there will be peace, perfect peace.

CONCLUSION
Though Satan’s final imprisonment is still in the future, his defeat was already accomplished at Calvary. Let us constantly claim our victory over Satan through the Blood shed at Calvary (Rev. 12:11).
